Some of the achievements of my ministries during the 1995-99 period
On
March 13, 1995, the BJP gave me the privilege of becoming the Deputy
Leader of the alliance and be the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. I
was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra when Mr.
Manohar Joshi led government took over the reins of the state on March
14, 1995.
For the initial
period of the Shiv Shahi, I had the responsibility of over a dozen
portfolios till the ministry formation process was completed .
As
things settled down, I was entrusted with Home and Energy ministries,
both facing challenges and problems inherited from the Congress (I)
governments of the past. I am proud to say that we in the Shiv Sena-BJP
government, under the chief ministership of Mr. Joshi and later, Mr.
Narayan Rane, could bring about a new outlook to the state
administration. Stability of Alliance Proved :During the 50 months of
the alliance rule the Shivshahi, we have been able to achieve most of
what we had promised in our Vachannama, the pledge we gave to our
voters before the assembly election.
But most important
achievement is that the alliance government provided a stable and
transparent government for a continuous period of 50 months, a feat not
achieved by any government in the state since 1973. The critics had
predicted a collapse of the alliance within a few months, but the
coalition steered clear all the political and other crises, under the
able guidance of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray and our party's
leader at the Centre, Mr. Pramod Mahajan.
Competent Team of Ministers:
We were fortunate to have a competent team of dedicated and selfless
ministers belonging to Shiv Sena, BJP and the Independents. Each of
them carried his or her responsibilities efficiently to fulfil the
promises given to the electorate. We drew out a collective programme
for the state for its overall development until BJP-Shiv Sena alliance
was in power. |
